Chaos Engineer

Chaos is your canvas, and you are the engineer. Eight cellular-automaton rules on a virtual Flipper Zero — the real device C sim, compiled to WebAssembly, driven on the same 128×64 screen and five-button pad.

01Play it here

The twin below is the real thing: flipper/chaos_core.c compiled straight to WebAssembly, driven on the same 128×64 screen and five-button pad you hold on the device. The console beside it is web-only telemetry — cycle rules, edit cells, watch the population breathe.

02Learn by doing

Four tiny decisions teach the whole game: what a cell's neighbourhood is, when a cell survives, when one is born, and why every rule feels different.

03What is a cellular automaton

A grid of cells, each alive or dead, all stepping forward together by one simple local rule. No cell sees the whole board — yet gliders crawl, mazes grow and blobs breathe.

Cells and neighbourhoods. Each cell watches its eight touching neighbours — the Moore neighbourhood. Every step, all cells update at once from the same rule, reading only that little ring around them.

Birth and survival (B/S). A rule is written B3/S23: a dead cell is born when its live-neighbour count is in B; a live cell survives when its count is in S. Change those digits and a whole universe changes with them.

04The eight rules

Chaos Engineer ships eight hand-picked rules. Cycle them live with Left / Right — each reseeds the field so you watch it come alive.

05On the Flipper & get it

The twin above is flipper/chaos_core.c in WebAssembly. The same C ships as a single .fap for the real device — sideload it and run, no companion app, no network.

Get the FAP

CI builds the app for both firmware SDK channels on every push to main and publishes each .fap to a rolling GitHub release.

Step 1

Grab the FAP

Pick release to match stock firmware, dev for the bleeding edge. Both track main.

Step 2

Sideload with qFlipper

Open qFlipper, browse the SD card, and drop chaosengineer.fap into apps/Games.

Step 3

Launch

On the Flipper: Apps → Games → Chaos Engineer. Chaos is your canvas.
